Eating Disorders
Eating disorders can affect anyone at any time in their life. There are many reasons why someone can develop an eating disorder. Sexual trauma, mental abuse, physical abuse, addictions, a distorted perception of self-body image can set off an eating disorder or just because one inherits the genetic properties.
Individuals who suffer from eating disorders will utilize dangerous methods of coping such as consuming laxatives, diuretics (more commonly known as water pills), inflict self harm, force themselves to vomit or become compulsive with exercise.
While eating disorders can take on various forms, there are primarily three main types, which include:
- Bulimia Nervosa
- Anorexia Disorder
- Binge Eating Disorder

- Abnormal weight loss of 25% of more with no known medical illness accounting for the loss.
- Reduction in food intake, denial of hunger and decrease in consumption of high carbohydrate and fat-containing foods
- Prolonged exercising despite fatigue and weakness
- Intense fear of gaining weight
- Peculiar patterns of handling food
- Amenorrhea in women
- Some exhibit bulimic episodes of binge-eating followed by vomiting and/or laxative and diuretic abuse
