Marriage Counseling

Meg Maginn, LCSW, Founder and Director of Eating Disorder Associates and Consultant of Eating Disorder Medical Group also specializes in counseling couples in conflict and often in crisis. She counsels many couples who are dealing with many issues such as:

All the above, as well as many more issues in a marriage, often lead to divorce, however with appropriate therapy couples can work through this crisis and change, often building a much stronger, healthier relationship. Meg Maginn, LCSW, has over 20 years experience in marriage counseling and/or couples therapy. During these sessions she will teach the couples to understand each other more, communicate with each other better, negotiate their differences and ultimately improve the relationship and in most cases save their marriage.

Marriage counseling may last anywhere from one session to months to years, depending on the problem area and the goals of each individual couple. Depending on the couple, marriage counseling and/or couples therapy usually starts off weekly but once the initial crisis or conflict is resolved, meeting once a week is no longer necessary.

The majority of marriages and relationships are not perfect. Each person brings his or her own personal stuff into the relationship and they both have their own expectations of the relationship and what they expect from their partner. When expectations are not met and there is disagreement or conflict, this usually triggers an escalation with each person attempting to control the other.

No matter the cause, conflict in a relationship can create stress, tension, sadness, worry, fear and sometimes lead to alcohol and substance abuse. You may hope your relationship troubles just go away on their own, but unsettled, a bad relationship may only worsen and eventually lead to more severe problems such as depression, create problems at work and affect others in the family.

If you or your spouse or partner feels you will benefit from Marriage Counseling and/or Couples Therapy and live in Nassau County, Suffolk County, Queens, or New York City call Meg Maginn, LSCW at (631) 724-7152. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Counselor with over 20 years of experience counseling couples, individuals, and families.
